The 1986 Magnolia Cheese Makers season was the 12th season of the franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Summary[edit]

After a two-conference leave, Magnolia decided to return in the third conference, known as Magnolia Cheese, the ballclub acquired eight players from the fabled Northern Consolidated Corporation (NCC) quintet namely; Samboy Lim, Hector Calma, Yves Dignadice, Elmer Reyes, Franz Pumaren, Alfredo Jarencio, Alfie Almario and Tonichi Yturri, who were members of the national team that won the Asian Basketball Confederation (ABC) championships in Kuala Lumpur earlier in the year, two players from their farm team Magnolia Ice Cream in the PABL, Jeffrey Graves and Alvin Teng, and two veterans, Manny Paner and Allan Abelgas, the team was coached by Derrick Pumaren.

The Cheese Makers had Rufus Harris and Don Collins as their imports, Collins was replaced by Bernard Title and then came Jim Banks to replaces Title. Magnolia finished last in the seven-team field with only two wins in 12 games, their two victories came against Alaska Milk on October 7, a 123–110 victory wherein the milkmen played with only one import, ^[1] and in their last game against the skidding Formula Shell Spark Aiders on November 9, a 121–116 upset as they bowed out in the season with a victory.
